Josie’s Weeble, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

Playing with Josie’s toys today! Here is one of her Weebles (#11) a boy with a sailboat. How fitting! Taken with the Olympus Pen E-PL1 camera and the 35mm f/1.7 CCTV manual focus lens…

Chicago Trip

CatDaddy, Mommy and Josie went for a wonderful trip visiting our good friends and gracious hosts (The Saripallis). It was Josie’s first trip to the big city and we got to show Josie off a little bit. Good times catching up with old friends and Josie’s first trip to the Shedd Aquarium. There was a special exhibit there of jellyfish. Of course I would take the camera. Not bad shots through the glass at the aquarium eh? I did take some film images too with the Rollei A110,  Hasselblad 500 C and Rolleicord but those will have to wait a bit for processing…

Josie and Birthday Cake!

Josie and Birthday Cake!, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

I am a big promoter of using film. I like the way film looks. I like the excitement on when a roll is developed and opening the envelope to see what was inside. So, I was shooting some of Josie’s birthday party on Sunday with my Nikon N90s 35mm film SLR. I found like 50 rolls of Fujifilm Fujicolor 100 film on eBay for $10. So, I was using up some of the cheap film. But the image here is spectacular! Josie is enjoying her birthday cake at her one year old birthday fest. I love the film look of this image. I love the fact that I captured her with cake in her mouth! Something that I didn’t do with my DSLR (a Nikon D90). So, there you go. My favorite image from the party was from a camera from the mid 1990’s. A single-lens reflex camera that I picked up for under $100. Hmm. Wow!

Week 14/52: Exhausted!

Exhausted!, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

Planning and hosting a birthday party for my one year old daughter is a lot of work. I am tired…

Josie Portrait

Josie Portrait-2, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

Okay. I’m am taking an online portraiture class at Improve Photography right now. Here is an image from my assignment in a natural light portrait. I placed Josie next to the sliding glass door in the back of our house. It was a heavy overcast day, so the light on her face is soft. The dark background is courtesy of our kitchen cabinets. Hmm. Work with what you’ve got!

Nikon D90, Sigma 105mm 2.8 lens, f/3.2, 1/80 sec, ISO 200,  no flash

Josie’s Cat

Josie’s Cat, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

Did I tell you that art ran in the family? My little sister Ashley is very creative as a photographer, a printmaker and now through sewing projects too. Here we received this awesome gift tonight from my incredably gifted sister. This is a cat she made for Josie. Wow! It is amazing!

It’s not really done but…

Josie became our daughter in the eyes of the court at 10:35 AM this morning. Yay! I am so proud to have this amazing little girl as our daughter! This long and winding road to become parents has been fulfilled. Yes – this process is done but the real work has just started. I will be a Daddy. Ally will be a Mommy. We accepted care and parenting of this girl today and the adoption order was finalized. Josie is officially part of the fatcatimages family! Yay Josie!

Thankful for our daughter

Josie during Tummy Time, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

Today, I am very thankful for our daughter and the birth parent that gave us this wonderful gift of parenting. Thankful for Ally’s sister and her nurse colleagues too that started this chain of events that Sunday morning in April. I love Josie! This image of her is one of my favorites. I applied the angel glow technique to this photo. It makes Josie pop!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Go Rockets!, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

This year there is A LOT to be thankful about all. We were blessed with our daughter Josie earlier this year and she lights up our lives so wonderfully. Thank you to the angel (maybe my Grandfather) who brought her into our lives…

Josie and her first cracker

Josie and her first cracker, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

How much do I love our daughter? A whole lot. That is why we take a gazillion pictures of her. I also really enjoy the Instagram app. Another shot from that app. Here she tries a cracker for the first time. Her first dry food…

It’s that time of year…

It’s that time of year…, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

Yep… that time! The time of year to start taking holiday portraits. I set up the home studio in our living room to shoot our daughter, Josie, for some Christmas cards. Sometimes, you just get lucky with a shot. I had the star filter on my camera and the flash just hit the “jewel” in Josie’s head band just right. I don’t think I could replicate this shot, especially since the flash was to Josie’s right…

Another image, another app… This time it’s a picture of Josie using the picfx app. The burnt film and old book syte used together…

Another app, another test of that app. Here I was feeding Josie peas this morning. The app is ArtistaOil which makes your photos look like an oil painting…

Business Cat Prints

Business Cat Prints, originally uploaded by spakulsk.

This is an image of the entrance into Josie’s room. It was shot with the Sony Mavica MVC-FD5. With the 0.3 megapixel resolution, it does not do that well in low light situations. But, I guess, what do you expect from Sony’s first truly digital camera from 1998. The prints are business cats by Amy Beth Geerling Payne. The print in the upper left is a commission of Pewter who passed in 2008 and the middle is of Smoodge who passed in 2006. The print on the afr bottom right is of Bartholomew Jangles in which we purchased at the Ann Arbor art fairs in 2010 and introduced us to her work. Josie’s room has a lot of cat inspired art in her room. Maybe you will see more through my further work on this blog…
